UNDERSTANDING BEGINS ON THE GROUND

‘What the horse does under compulsion, is done without understanding; and there is no beauty in it either, anymore than if one should whip or spur a dancer.’
- Art of Horsemanship Xenophon 430-354 BC
" I met Felicia while purchasing my first Gypsy Vanner mare, Sanibel.Felicia’s training philosophy makes complete sense and, consequently, I am implementing her methods with all the horses at Pegasus Place. My only regret is that she isn’t my 'on site'  trainer - 24/7."
~ Judith Anne M.  TN

" Anyone who has met Felicia Britt talks about how intuitive she is with horses.I have often wanted to have a tape recorder whenever I'm with her - anything to capture her wealth of knowledge! Felicia makes me a better horse owner ."

   ANNOUNCING
After years of looking for a saddle that would the Britts teamed up with professional horsemen and saddle makers from Oklahoma & Texas.Together, they measured, fit & remeasured properly fit a dozens of Gypsy Horses while studying their conformation, style and Gypsy Horse, movement. After two years of research & development, Marvin & Felicia Britt are excited to announce the first and only saddle specifically designed for the health and comfort of you and your Gypsy Horse.
THE DEVELOPMENT

The foundation of any saddle is the TREE. The width of the gullet compared to the width of the bars determine the angle of the tree and fit of the saddle over the wither. Most saddles are too narrow for Gypsy Horses due to their broad skeletal structure and heavy muscling. A full bar and often even a wide saddle can pinch the scapula(shoulder blade),causing the saddle to slide back too far or roll to one side. Often riders must repeatedly tighten their cinch to compensate for the improper fit, making the horse more uncomfortable.
THE FIT
Most saddles are also too narrow at the rear as well, causing it to pop up,
instead of lying flat over the back. Draft Horse trail saddles are often tried, but are found to be too large for most Gypsy Horses. As a result, the rear skirt rubs the hipbone whenever the horse bends right or left.An ill-fitting saddle affects the horse’s work ethic, disposition, physical ability and gait. The Britt Gypsy Saddle Tree was designed to be 7.5 inches wide at the gullet and 14 inches wide at the bars. This angle allows the saddle to rest naturally in the proper position. The bars are also widened and flattened at the rear of the saddle so the bars support the back, preventing pressure points and soreness. Finally, the length of the skirt shortened to prevent rubbing the hipbones, while lengthening the skirt leather on the sides of the saddle for that close contact feel on the round barrel of the Gypsy Horse.

All Britt Gypsy Saddles are benchmade.
Each one is individually hand-crafted in
Oklahoma. Every saddle is numbered
and may be registered. The leather is
hand-tooled and soaked in olive oil for
a supple comfortable fit. The silver is hand-engraved and accented with swarovski crystals. Each piece has elegant bronze scroll work and a unique berry edge. There are various leather colors, tooling patterns & silver selections available for your personally designed
